I booked Unleash the Dogs in Gogarburn recently after dropping my parents off at Edinburgh Airport early in the morning.

Pepper has to be medicated for the car, so once we were already out that way, I thought I might as well make the most of the day and find somewhere nearby for the girls to let off steam.

And I’m so glad I did, because this is probably the best secure dog field I’ve visited so far.

Booking & Arrival

It’s very close to Edinburgh Airport, which made it ideal for us.

I booked online about a week in advance, and it was really straightforward. You book in 30-minute slots, and I booked two sessions back-to-back so we had the field for a full hour.

At £14, it felt pretty reasonable too, which seems to be about the going rate for these places now.

A Huge Bonus for Reactive Dogs

Great thing about this place is the secure parking area.

That might not sound exciting, but if you have reactive dogs, it really is.

Being able to let the dogs straight out of the car without stressing about leads or awkward arrivals made such a difference. I arrived right on time, so it worked out perfectly, but even if you were a little early, there’s just enough space to wait.

First Impressions

It was clean, secure, really well kept, and just felt properly looked after.

No mess. No muddy disaster. No broken bits of equipment.

The grass was immaculate, the fencing felt solid, and there was loads more to it than just an empty field.

There’s a shelter area for humans that actually looked nice and didn’t smell weird, plus a picnic bench, poo bags, a poo bin, water, and lots of agility equipment. Everything looked good quality and secure.

Is It Actually Secure?

Yes, and for me, that’s the main thing.

The fencing looked strong and high enough that I felt completely comfortable with both Heidi and Pepper. It’s a wire-style fence and see-through, but beyond that there’s really just open crop field, so there isn’t much going on to wind the dogs up.

Even Heidi, who once nearly scaled a fence trying to chase a hare, felt completely safe here.

I didn’t notice any weak spots, gaps, muddy escape points, or anything that would make me nervous.

How the Girls Got On

They had the best time.

Usually Heidi can look slightly underwhelmed in secure fields, like she’s wondering what the point of it all is, but not here. She was bouncing around, which is always a good sign.

Pepper, of course, was fully committed from the start.

We had a go on some of the agility equipment, and both girls loved the jumping sections. Heidi wasn’t quite so impressed by the climbing bits, but Pepper would probably climb a house if you let her.

It was one of those crisp, sunny mornings with a little frost on the ground, and the whole place looked really pretty too.

Final Thoughts

We’ll definitely be going back.

This field felt spacious, secure, clean, and genuinely enjoyable to use, not just somewhere enclosed for the sake of it.

For reactive dogs, it’s a brilliant option. The secure parking, strong fencing, and peaceful setting made it feel stress-free from start to finish.

If all secure dog fields were like this, I’d visit them a lot more often.
